Description
Morphology
The main fissure has an average section of 10 metres in height by 2 in width, although its progression involves continuously overcoming narrow sections, passages between blocks and steps. The main gallery is formed by a series of galleries that follow one another in parallel; at the end of each gallery it narrows in width until it continues as a crawlway that sooner or later becomes impassable; sometimes a single gallery has an upper floor and a lower one forming two superimposed galleries. The floor of the cavity is a continuous pile of blocks.
There are two important branches; the first is taken halfway along the route; just after the largest chamber and having climbed 7 metres of elevation gain, a narrow hole on the left will lead us to a series of galleries with no further continuation.
The other branch is found almost at the end of the cavity; it is a crossing of fissures that, after some initial metres of notable dimensions, must be climbed and continued through narrow sections that will lead us to a series of galleries which end after a route of 80 metres.
Progression
Given the complex characteristics of the cavity, with continuous climbing over blocks, scrambles, narrow passages and steps, a brief general description is given, referring you to the viewing of the survey in order to gain a more detailed idea of the cavity.
The complete through-trip of the cavity can be made by entering through the easternmost entrance and exiting through the western one (the reverse is not possible).
Through the eastern entrance, we will descend some steps and go through some crawlways between blocks that will place us on the ceiling of the main fissure, which we will descend by means of a 10-metre rappel on a double rope (before removing the rope, make sure you know the exit route).
To exit the cavity, you must follow the main fissure to a 5-metre pit that must be climbed to place ourselves in the exit gallery.
History
During the archaeological research carried out in the summer of 1956 by members of the then delegations in Vilafranca del Penedès of the ERE of the Agrupació Excursionista Catalunya and of the Unió Excursionista de Catalunya, they were informed by the owner of Cal Marquet of an unknown cavity. After an intense search they located it on 23 September 1956, explored part of its galleries and made a very schematic sketch.
In the following years it was the subject of various archaeological excavations.
During 1973 members of the SIRE – UEC carried out biospeleological research and also produced a survey, although partial. The estimated route is 270 metres.
We do not know who and when the connection was made between the entrance called de la Roca del Frare and the lower one, known as Avenc del Castell.
It was not until 1976 that members of the SIS of the CE Terrassa, within some geospeleological work in the area of La Llacuna, made a new, more complete survey, in which the different entrances of the cavity already appear. They give it a total route of 525 metres.
In 1984, the GERS of the AE Muntanya published a work on the area and presented a new survey, in which the general elevation of the cavity stands out, unpublished until then. In this one, the total route is estimated at 552 metres. They also name the three accesses as V-1, V-2 for the westernmost entrances and V-3 for the easternmost one.
