Characteristics

Location

From Mont-ral we will head West; once past the esplanade at the exit of the village we find a crossroads, we will leave the path that climbs to La Foradada and the Serrat de l'Avenc, and continue along the path in a NW direction. Once we have covered 75 metres, a path comes out on the left which we will follow, this one is from time to time marked with cairns and red dots. We will find a first fork where we will continue to the right; a little further on we find a small path on the left marked with cairns and the red dots, we must follow them, since this path heads to the Teix mil·lenari. We will reach a point where we must climb a steep slope formed by an accumulation of blocks; when we descend on the other side the small path passes almost touching the wall where we observe stalagmitic flows, we will soon reach the Teix mil·lenari. We continue a little further and enter a large rocky trench; at this point we will leave the path that continues to the left uphill, to continue through the middle of the forest and follow the base of the cliff on the left in a Westerly direction, for about 80 metres, where we will find the mouth of the pit avenc de la Llastra at the base of the cliff wall. From here we will descend about fifteen metres in a N direction to an old charcoal kiln and, we will continue in an E direction through the middle of the forest for 35 metres where we will find the mouth of the cova de la Sala.

Description

Morphology

The mouth gives access to a steep descending ramp that places us in a wide chamber of 7x3x1.70 metres with the ceiling full of drips. On the S side, the gallery continues with generous dimensions until the end. From the West side of the chamber and overcoming a one-metre step we enter a narrow conduit that soon gains height until it becomes obstructed. From the NE side of the chamber next to the entrance, we find a conduit with a couple of steps both ascending and descending that place us at the lowest point of the cavity -6 metres. The total length is 37.30 metres.

Speleothems

The ceiling of the chamber is full of drips. On the wall near the small path stalagmitic flows are observed.

History

A cavity undocumented speleologically, it is visited by Juli Serrano and Montse Roca (SIE-CEA) in January 2020, it is returned to again in July 2020 to carry out the cataloguing work.
