Description

Morphology

The cave entrance is triangular in shape: 0.7 x 1.7 metres. A 10-metre corridor leads us to the most spacious part of the cavity, since at this point a short 5-metre gallery joins it on our left. In this latter passage we can observe, at the highest part of the ceiling and facing west, how the light from outside slips through a very narrow fissure that we cannot access due to its narrow dimensions.

Continuing towards the interior of the cavity, it makes a short drop and then rises again to reach the level of the entrance gallery once more. The passage makes us stoop a little, but we can still comfortably reach a double side gallery of very reduced dimensions up to a small step, where this double gallery dies out towards our right side. A very low crawl would allow us to advance about 3 metres until coming out into the same gallery that we entered next. The final passage of the cavity, with 11 metres of length, is more uncomfortable. The height does not exceed half a metre, while the width does not reach a metre at any point.

The cavity is developed along a main fracture that follows the same direction as other neighbouring cavities: Cova del Manel, la del Frare or la del Fondal.

History

It seems that the first exploration was carried out by Jordi-Joaquim Mangot and other members of the Secció d'Alta Muntanya (SAM del CE Terrassa) in June 1967, naming it Cova Perduda. It seems that others have known it as Cova A.R.E.C.

Practically forgotten, no further news is heard until it is rediscovered by members of the SIS del CE Terrassa in December 2006.
