Cova de Coll Cabiró

Cova de Coll Cabiró

Petita cova a Monistrol de Montserrat

Monistrol de Montserrat • Bages20m4m

Small cave in Monistrol de Montserrat, located and explored in June 2021.

Characteristics

Location

The cave is located in Monistrol de Montserrat. From km 5.5 of the road from Monistrol to the Monastery and at the height of the Monistrol football field, the so-called Agrella shortcut begins, with a steep slope. You reach a track (Camí de les Canals) which must be followed to the left until you find a turnoff to the right that leads to the firefighting pond of the ADF de Monistrol. From here and along a half-hidden path you can continue climbing up the aforementioned shortcut. Shortly before reaching the rocky point of Coll Cabiró and beside some cliffs equipped with climbing routes, there is a small channel which, shortly after being passed, leads to the mouth of the cave.

Description

Morphology

Through a narrow mouth that must be entered by crawling, one penetrates into a passage that widens after a few metres and at 10 m from the mouth becomes narrow again due to the presence of a block. Once the narrow section is passed, the gallery continues for a few more metres, in a slightly ascending direction until reaching, through a passage in the ceiling, an elongated small chamber where the cavity ends.

Speleothems

The elongated small chamber presents some lithogenic forms.

Progression

You must enter by crawling through a narrow mouth. After a few metres the passage widens and at 10 m from the mouth it becomes narrow again due to the presence of a block. Once the narrow section is passed, the gallery continues for a few more metres, in a slightly ascending direction until reaching, through a passage in the ceiling, an elongated small chamber where the cavity ends.

History

Located and partially visited in June 2021 by David Hernández during the search for a lime kiln in the Coll Cabiró area. At the end of the same month of June, and accompanied by members of the SIS – CET, they explore it fully and survey it. Despite having remained unpublished in speleological catalogues, the cavity had been known for some time by members of the Club Muntanyenc Monistrolenc.
