A 90 m long cave in Vallcebre, with two entrances and a main gallery of steep gradient.

Characteristics

Location

On the B-400 road, from Guardiola de Berguedà to Saldes, between kilometre 5 and 5.5, at the foot of a rocky crag we find rock shelters with remains of constructions used as corrals (balmes de Ca l'Isidret); the cave is a few metres from these shelters and its entrance is somewhat hidden by a series of blocks. Currently (2023) the last stretch up to the crag is overgrown.

Description

Morphology

It has two entrances of low height, one of them divided in two by a block; a few metres from the entrance, on the left, the gallery is choked by blocks, but on the right it joins with the passage coming from the other entrance, forming a single gallery, of steep gradient, muddy floor and notable dimensions. This main stretch of the gallery is about 50 metres long and at the midpoint of its course it undergoes a widening due to the confluence of an ascending passage which after a few metres becomes impassable because of the low height of the ceiling, and which is possibly the final stretch of the gallery choked near the entrance. From the end point of the main gallery, this continues through a passage of much smaller dimensions, which after some small muddy steps, ends in a very narrow point choked by sediments.

History

Explored in 1957 by members of the SES del CE Puigmal; of this exploration there is only a reference in a brief note published in the magazine Cordada no. 27, where it is cited under the name cova Lluís Dachs, one of the explorers.

It was later explored by the GES del CMB, who cite it under the correct name Cova de Ca l'Isidret, appearing thus in the list of cavities on the map of the Alpina publishing house.

In 1972 the SIE del CE Àliga carried out the only known survey of the cavity, which was not published until 1980 in vol.5 of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya.
