Ribes de Freser • Ripollès32m10m

Cave near the Pont de la Cabreta, in Ribes de Freser, with passages of 9 and 6 metres, a total length of 32.3 metres and a vertical drop of +10 metres.

Characteristics

Location

On the N-260 road after passing Campdevànol, the Colònia l'Herand and km 123, we will find the Pont de la Cabreta where we will leave the vehicle. We will follow the road in the direction of Ribes de Freser for about a hundred metres, until we reach the torrent that is on our right on the other side of the road; once we have crossed the road's guardrail we must go to where it ends, just above there is the rockfall containment mesh, and at this point we will find some staples driven into the rock, which is where we must climb. We must intuit the continuation of the path that goes in a N direction and that will take us to the foot of the wall where the cave is located.

Description

Morphology

The cavity opens in an overhanging wall. On the S side a passage 9 metres long opens, while on the N side there is another passage that to access it requires a 6-metre-long traverse. Once the traverse has been made, one accesses a passage that soon descends in a ramp for a couple of metres; here on the ceiling we find a passage that rises 4 metres and ends, while the main gallery ends about five metres further on. The length of this passage is 16.9 metres. The total length of the cavity is 32.3 metres, while the vertical drop is +10 metres.

Progression

To access the passage on the N side, a 6-metre-long traverse must be made.

History

Explored in June 2013 by the Espeleodijous group, who published it on the blog 'espeleobloc.com'; with the passage of time and due to the inactivity of this blog, the images of this article disappeared, the Espeleodijous recovered the article and on 14-3-2022 included it on the website 'espeleodijous.cat'.

Nil Hosta Ferrer and Tanit Sanmartin, unaware of the data previously cited, in January 2026 relocated the cavity while carrying out cataloguing work and named it cova del Flanqueig.
