Characteristics

Location

Going along the N-340 road in a S direction, at the turn-off towards l'Almadrava take the turn-off towards the old main road (N-340a) and shortly after (Km. 235.9) an asphalted track comes out on the right that passes by a small group of houses (Caseta de Genessies) and from here, on the right, another track in very bad condition that ends in an abandoned crop field of carob and olive trees, as well as the ruins of the mas del Guerxo. At the eastern end of this field a small channel begins that must be flanked towards the right (left hydrographic slope) at about 20 metres of height from the channel bed. At about 150 metres we will find the small mouth of the pit, marked with a stone cairn one metre high.

Description

Morphology

Through a mouth one metre in diameter one enters a shaft of 13 metres of drop with the base slightly inclined and at one of its ends it connects with another shaft, this one about 12 metres deep. This second shaft is structured over a series of blind cavities that were later joined leaving a separating partition that joins them at the ends.

Speleothems

The second shaft has its walls profusely decorated by an important lithogenic process.

Hydrology

At the lowest point of the cavity a small pool is usually found, originated by infiltrations.

History

Discovered and explored for the first time around the year 1977 by members of the SIE Poblet (Barcelona). Later we only know of some visits of a biospeleological nature made by our friend Floren Fadrique.

Bio

  • Paranilloclamys velox Zariquiey 1940. This cavity is the westernmost location of this species.
  • Tychobitinus sp. New location. In the absence of a definitive determination, it can be supposed that it is Tychobitinus muntani, which is found in the nearby cova del Parrillo-Serra, el Perelló.
