Location

Small 7 m deep pit in Montserrat (Collbató). While going up the stairs that lead to the cova del Salnitre, once you reach a flat stretch without steps, on the left a small hole completely filled with small stones can be seen; a few metres to the left, above the last steps, is the entrance of the pit.

Description

Morphology

Through a small entrance, currently (2010) blocked by a block wedged a few centimetres below the surface, one enters a shaft made uneven by accumulations of blocks at different levels and which connects with a gallery of short length. To the right of this and one metre above, a short ascending passage emerges.

Progression

In 1978, the GES – CMB explored the cavity in greater detail and explored some previously unknown passages and even a second entrance which, a few metres in, leads to an impenetrable passage that connects with the chamber of the already known galleries.

History

Cavity that was probably unblocked towards the end of the 1960s (possibly by members of the SEOG – Orfeó Gracienc) and which, despite its location, has always gone unnoticed.

In 1971, during the cataloguing work of the GE Pedraforca (Barcelona) they made a first survey, unpublished until now, which is very similar to the one made in 1976 by the GES – CMB, but two years later, the GES – CM Terrassa made a new survey, also unpublished until now, which although it seems a little more complicated also seems more complete (Record update: November 2016).
