Esparreguera • Baix Llobregat34m17m

A 17 m deep pit in the serra del Cairat, near the Coll de Cassot (Esparreguera), discovered and explored by SIRE – UEC Olesa de Montserrat in 1965.

Characteristics

Location

In the serra del Cairat, near the Coll de Cassot (Esparreguera). We must follow the same itinerary as to go to the Avenc Montserrat and the Avenc del Fum. From the latter we must continue about 30 metres towards the S and we should find the pits of the Clast.

All three are arranged from N to S. The northernmost is the Avenc III del Clast, a few metres further on is the Avenc del Clast and continuing towards the S, very close by, is the Avenc II del Clast.

Approximate coordinates and very difficult location due to the exuberant vegetation covering the whole area. In the topography section a map prepared by Xavier Badiella is included, on which most of the cavities of the area are located and which can help in their location.

Description

Morphology

A 17 m deep pit. It begins with a small drop of a metre and a half that leads us to a gallery where we advance stooping. We turn right while descending a drop to continue towards a small chamber (section A-B) where we will observe a hole in the ground through which we will crawl (section a-b); the passage descends until it leads us onto a gallery about 3 metres high, which is the widest stretch of the cavity (section C-D). We must descend gently towards the S until we find another narrow passage on our left that leads to another small chamber (section c-d). From this small chamber one can continue through a very narrow little pit which, in the form of a ramp, descends to the level – 17 where a short gallery is observed that leads to an ascending passage that communicates again with the aforementioned ramp through two very narrow little holes.
