Avenc de la Mola

Avenc de la Mola

Petit avenc de 12 m. de fondària vora la Mola de Sant Llorenç del Munt.

Matadepera • Vallès Occidental18m12m

Small pit 12 m deep near the Mola de Sant Llorenç del Munt, located on 16 March 2000.

Characteristics

Location

About 200 metres SW of the monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt (la Mola).

From the monastery, take the path coming from the area of the Cingles dels Cavalls. Shortly after leaving the monastery, a small group of holm oaks is crossed and a little further on the path levels out slightly, leaving a small wood on the right. When it begins to descend a little, a clearing appears on the right which must be followed in a N direction until reaching its end, crossing a little forest that leads out onto a sloping, elongated rocky slope towards the Canal dels Melindros. Halfway along the rocky slope, if we look towards the slope of the Canal de l'Abella, we can see how some completely dry pines stand out from among the holm oak wood in front of us. It is by going to look for these pines that, on entering the wood, we will find the pit barely five metres from the rocky slope (description from the year 2000).

Description

Morphology

The small entrance, half a metre in diameter, quite earthy and surrounded by moss. A little hop further down, the cavity ends, forming a somewhat elliptical floor. At both ends we can observe how the joint that generated the cavity continues into the mountain, but it is completely impenetrable.

Progression

The entrance allows us to descend easily one and a half metres to the start of a pronounced ramp of 55º inclination, quite uncomfortable in the first 6 or 7 metres. From that point on it widens a little, making progression more comfortable down to a step where we can almost stand upright.

History

Cavity located on 16 March 2000 by Joan Bernadí while he was wandering around the summit of the Mola. He notified his companions José A. Pérez and J. Delgado (GES-CMT), who proceeded to carry out the first exploration on the afternoon of 4 June of the same year.
