A pit 7 metres deep near Juncosa de Montmell, with two entrance mouths and a single elliptical chamber 14 metres in major diameter.

Characteristics

Location

It is found 145 metres before reaching the Puig de la Cova, where the track coming from the coll d'Arca arrives. It emerges from the left side of the track and after having passed a marker 1.5 metres high, a waymarked path that descends along the ridge of the serra in the direction of the Fondo de la Cativera, where we will find the cavity after covering 370 metres of distance and 65 metres of drop.

Description

Morphology

Pit 7 metres deep. It has two entrance mouths, an upper and wider one through which one descends directly to the centre of the single chamber, elliptical in shape and 14 metres in major diameter. A few metres to the right of the upper mouth and below it, we find the other, smaller entrance mouth.

Progression

Through the upper and wider mouth one descends directly to the centre of the single chamber. Through the other, smaller entrance mouth, with the help of a rope to secure oneself one can descend without gear.

History

Known since remote times. Cited by Font in his Catàlech (1897) as la Cova Cativera, information he draws from the Interrogatori made a short time before to all the delegates of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya. Apart from the name no further data is given.

When it is explored in 1956 by members of the GES – CM Barcelonès, they choose to call it avenc.
