Characteristics

Location

In the Fontpineda urbanisation, going along the Gran Via de Fontpineda, we will turn off towards the Via del doctor Josep Maria Torroella; we will soon find a short street on the left that leads to a semi-rounded square with no exit. The cavity is 40 metres from the square, behind the last tower; unfortunately all the towers are fenced and cannot be accessed. To reach it, one must go to the previous junction, where on the left there is a square right next to the head of the torrent de la Guixera; one must follow, if the vegetation allows, along the right hydrographic slope of the torrent, continuing along the rear part of the towers until reaching the cavity.

Description

Morphology

Fissure 28 metres long by -13 metres deep. From the upper lip, entering through the shorter end and following the whole floor, we reach an accumulation of blocks; among these one can access a pit -7 metres deep with a narrow section. At 5 metres there is a horizontal gallery of square section, full of blocks in precarious balance, and after a narrow crawl we reach a room with an ascending floor. On one side a pit of -7 metres opens; at the base, a gallery 10 metres long connects perpendicularly with another gallery of 7 metres, through which one reaches the point of maximum penetration of the cavity at -26 metres.

History

Known forever by the residents of la Palma de Cervelló under the name les Esquerdes. The first exploration seems to have been carried out by members of the CE Molins de Rei accompanied by residents of the village. In October 1982 members of the GERS carried out a clearance that allowed them to reach -26 metres; it also connects with the neighbouring Forat de la Remei, although the passage is for the moment impassable.
