A 24-metre-deep pit in la Palma de Cervelló, in the Fontpineda urbanisation, with access through a horizontal crawlway and a descending gallery.

Characteristics

Location

It is located in the Fontpineda urbanisation, on carrer Via Palma de Cervelló, behind house no. 9, but it cannot be accessed from there since there is no passage between the houses. One must position oneself on the road that goes from la Palma de Cervelló to Corbera de Llobregat; once at the turn-off of the road that climbs to Fontpineda, we will follow the road in the direction of Corbera de Llobregat for about a hundred metres; on the right a track starts that after a couple of bends heads towards the W, and passes below the cliff where the houses are. One must look for a passage, first between the woods and then at the cliff; the landmark is a house with a modern architectural design, totally different from the rest of the houses; directly below this house is avenc nº2 de l'Esquerda.

Description

Morphology

Through a horizontal crawlway below a rock one reaches a 3-metre-deep drop of irregular shape with an ascending floor. After a few metres we are at the entrance of a second drop, this one 10 metres deep, with flat walls that widen as we descend. The floor is nothing more than the start of a descending gallery 21 metres long, where successive accumulations of blocks form two drops of 1.5 and 2 metres respectively. The gallery continues until it becomes impenetrable at -24 metres, at a drop where 8 metres more have been probed.

History

Unobstructed by CE Molins de Rei in 1977.

In 1982 Toni Asensio carried out the only known survey of the cavity.

The cavity remained practically forgotten due to its difficulty of access; it was not until 2014 that Tassja Römhild, a resident of Fontpineda, located the cavity and got in contact with the EspeleoÍndex team, to facilitate its location for them.
