Blowing holes on the trace of the great northern fault of the Mouthoumet massif, in Ypresian limestones with miliolids and alveolines.
Description
Morphology
Collapsed shaft choked with blocks at -3 m. The hole is currently filled in again.
Other details
Ypresian limestones with miliolids and alveolines. The holes open on the trace of the great northern fault of the Mouthoumet massif.
Air temperature: 14°.
These holes began to blow violently during the cold of 10/12/1985 (“smokes”). The origin of this air current seems “tectonic”. The holes are indeed aligned on a line of break in slope on the flank of the Corneilla valley and on the path of the great bordering fault of the Mouthoumet massif, clearly visible on the left bank of the Corneilla. An internal phenomenon of the landslide type must have occurred, which caused the communication of underground volumes with lower openings (wind tubes) or with larger cavities possibly containing water (cavity breathing). An observation in summer would make it possible to better define the solution.
