Horat Ajsc-26

Avenc de 35 m. de fondària a la zona de Liat (Val d'Aran)

Canejan • Val d'Aran60m35m

A 35 m deep pit in the Liat area (Val d'Aran), discovered and explored on 25 August 1972 by members of the AJSC speleology section.

Characteristics

Location

The cavity is located in the Liat area (Val d'Aran), about 650 metres N of the path (GR-211) that leads from the Liat mines to Sant Joan de Toran. It must be found between the Estany de Liat and the Liscòrn lakes.

Approximate coordinates, calculated from the Lambert coordinates recorded in the explorers' report and reconverted using a calculation system provided by our colleague Josep Guarro, which seems fairly reliable (error of less than 50 metres).

Description

Morphology

Vertical entrance between blocks. Narrow passage with a large slippery slab, from which the conduit descends steeply. At the end, a narrow passage connects with a pit of just over 10 metres, followed by a short low section that connects with a drop of about 5 metres leading to a short gallery collapsed by debris, where the cavity ends in an area dominated by schists.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the AJSC speleology section (La Courneuve, FR) on 25 August 1972. There had never been any news of the activities of this French group, carried out on both sides of the border during the summers of 1971 and 1972, until last 13 October 2018 (after coinciding in the area, in the summer of 2018, with a Franco-Belgian group carrying out a campaign) when our colleagues Josep Guarro and Joan Carles Juderías made a tour of the area. Josep was able to locate a member of that group and gave him a copy of the report of their activities, which he has kindly ceded to us so that we can include some unpublished cavities of the Liat area in Espeleoíndex. Only three of them seem to be of minimal interest and accompany the survey; the rest are very small and some practically impenetrable.
