Sant Esteve de la Sarga • Pallars Jussà70m39m

A 39-metre-deep pit in Sant Esteve de la Sarga, with four entrances that join in a -34-metre shaft.

Characteristics

Location

Following the track that goes from the puig de Sant Alís to the collada de Colobó, we will have to turn off on reaching the entrance to this pass, along a path that branches off to the left and heads towards Beniure. About three hundred metres from this junction we will find the beginnings of a torrent, which we will descend on the right at mid-height; on reaching the point where the descent begins to be steeper, we will find a flat area where the four entrances of the cavity open.

Description

Morphology

The cavity has a main entrance of 10x12 metres and three others about twenty metres further north. The four entrances join inside, forming a shaft about 25 metres wide and -34 deep that ends on a cone of debris and stones, forming a slope on two sides, both ending in halls at -39 metres.

Progression

It is through one of these entrances that the “spits” for descending are installed.

History

First explored by the Centre Gimnàstic Barcelonès in the autumn of 1958, although it had already been located in Holy Week of that same year, when a resident of the village of Moror who knew the terrain accompanied them to most of the cavities of this sector of the Montsec.
