Graller del Bogader

Graller del Bogader

Avenc de 25 metres de desnivell al riu de Tosa (Queralbs)

Queralbs • Ripollès44m25m

A pit with a 25-metre drop at the riu de Tosa (Queralbs), with a large 14X8-metre entrance in limestone and a 23.60-metre shaft.

Characteristics

Location

From the village of Queralbs we will take a GR trail that heads to the estret del Forn, passing by the font del Coronel. When we reach the riu de Tosa (also known as torrent de l'Estremera) we must cross it, and immediately we will spot the cova de l'Estret del Forn on the hydrographic right bank at the entrance of the gorge of the same name. We will head to the cave and from it we will go to the left following the base of the cliff until we find a carved stone cairn on the path, in a place where a small torrent flows down. At this point we will go up the torrent until we intercept another path. We will follow this to the right for about five minutes, and then descending diagonally we will go into the forest as far as the cliff, where half-hanging and hidden in the woods we will find the cavity, of difficult access. Description

Morphology

We find a large 14X8-metre entrance excavated in limestone. From the head of the shaft a possible continuation is visible on the opposite wall. We descend a 23.60-metre shaft that places us on a 25º ramp, and which at its lower part leads to a large portico 7.50 metres high by 2.50 metres wide, which comes out at the torrent in the middle of the cliff. The drop from the lower lip is -25 metres.

History

The first reference to this cavity is that of the exploration carried out during 24 25 and 26 January 1953 by members of the GES de CMB, O. Andrés, J.M. Armengou and F. Barceló, who also explored several nearby cavities, citing this cavity as Avenc del Bogadé and assigning it a depth of -20 metres.

In 1980 the record of the cavity appears in volume 4 of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya but without a survey, where it is cited as Avenc del Bogader o Avenc del Graller.

On 11 January 1983 the SIE del CEA explored it and made the survey, although this would not be published until 1986 in a bulletin of the CE Àliga. They assigned it a drop of -37.5 metres, counted from the upper lip of the cavity.

In 2006 Ferran Cardona (ECG) and Josep Cuenca (GEB) located it again; from this location, the GE Badalona explored it on 27 January 2007 making a new survey of the cavity, citing it with the more correct name of Graller del Bogader.
