Forat de Safor

Petit avenc de 14 m. de fondària a la zona de Llastarri (Pallars Jussà)

Tremp • Pallars Jussà25m14m

Small pit 14 m deep in the Llastarri area (Pallars Jussà), discovered on 25 November 1979 by members of the ERE – CEC (Escolà / Comas).

Characteristics

Location

To the N of the small abandoned village of Llastarri, near the collada de Safor (there are doubts about the correct toponymy, it could also be: Sofogó or Sofegó), on a slope inclined to the left of the track and above the left flank of the barranc de Canarill. Very close to the administrative line that borders Aragon. In the former municipality of Espluga de Serra, absorbed in 1970 by that of Tremp.

Access can be gained from the N-230 road (Benavarri to Pont de Suert), where shortly before reaching Sopeira a track branches off leading to the ermita de Sant Gregori, which must be followed all the way up the barranc de Miralles to the castle of the same name. The track continues in a N direction and at the turn-off to Llastarri one must continue straight on to the area of the Pla de Cunco; shortly before, one finds the aforementioned collada near which the pit is located. Description

Morphology

Through a small entrance between blocks one enters a small shaft of about 4 metres that connects with the general joint of the pit. A ramp between stones and a small drop of just over 2 metres lead to a new level, a ramp full of clastic products, until reaching the point where the fissure becomes impenetrable (elevation – 14).

History

Discovered following a dig in a pile of blocks by members of the ERE – CEC (Escolà / Comas) on 25 November 1979. In their biospeleological research they found a new subspecies of Speonomus. This cavity had remained unpublished until its publication, with partial data, in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (Valles, J. de, 2008), although the location is erroneous, as it is included in the municipality of Alt Àneu (Pallars Sobirà).
