Characteristics

Location

The cave is located at the base of the cliff on the south face of the Serra de Sant Gervàs (Tremp). Although its large entrance can be seen from quite a distance, the approach is quite difficult.

One of the approaches can be made from the Torre de Tamúrcia (Tremp): after the village, take a track on the left towards Casa Jaumet and the corrals de Sallants, where we will leave the vehicles already near the ermita de Sant Gervàs. From here it is necessary to climb towards the entrance, overcoming a little more than 400 metres of elevation gain through endless scree slopes, which in a couple of hours will bring us to the cavity.

There is another access that seems to be a little shorter: take the road from Senterada to Pont de Suert and turn off towards Adons; shortly after we will find a turn-off to the right that passes by the Mas del Gras, follow the track to the end, which will place us at the coll de Sant Roc d'Adons; from here it is necessary to climb in a S direction to the canal de la Maroma, which is equipped with ropes to reach the foot of the wall. This route can be done in 1.3 hours. It should be borne in mind that this latter route involves driving 45 kilometres further, in an estimated time of 50 minutes.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, about 90 metres high by 23 metres wide, is regarded as one of the largest entrances of Catalan cavities. It has a passage of 102 metres. To enter, one climbs up a slope of fallen rocks to the top, where the floor becomes horizontal and is occupied by some plants. On the right, an irregular conduit with dripping opens where the ceiling becomes low.

Progression

To enter, one climbs up a slope of fallen rocks to the top. Artificial light is only needed in some of the final corners.
