Forat de Picorandan

Forat de Picorandan

Esquerda de 22 metres de fondària sota el Picorandan (Capafonts).

Capafonts • Baix Camp40m22m

A 22-metre-deep fissure beneath Picorandan, in Capafonts, explored and surveyed for the first time in June 2019.

Characteristics

Location

From Capafonts, we follow the TV-7041 road towards Prades; at kilometre 25.36 we turn left to follow the track heading to the Motllats. After covering 1.22 kilometres, at the Pla de l'Ermitanet we find a hut where we can leave the vehicle. The fields on our left are surrounded by a metal fence, so we continue on foot along the track for 140 metres, where we turn left following the fence for another 140 metres; at the end of this we cross the path that descends from Picorandan and continue towards the NE for 200 metres, where we find the fissure where the cavity opens almost touching the cliff.

Description

Morphology

It is a long fissure that is collapsed in some sections; thus we find that in its southernmost part the Puig Ronda pit opens, while in the northernmost part of the fissure the Forat de Picorandan opens, with no communication between them.

This has an entrance that does not exceed one metre in width, with a shaft of -12 metres, where in some places one must look for the widest spot in order to descend; at the base we are at the highest point of a ramp that descends in both directions. Towards the N, a short ramp places us at a shaft of almost -5 metres where at the base the gallery becomes quite narrow, preventing continuation after a few metres.

In a S direction, a steep ramp places us at a 1.5-metre step where there is a short gallery in a NW direction. At the base of the step the gallery continues descending as it becomes narrow until continuation is prevented.

History
