Forat de les Baés

Petit avenc de 9 m. de fondària a la zona de Sellui (Baix Pallars)

Baix Pallars • Pallars Sobirà25m9m

Small pit 9 m deep in the Sellui area (Baix Pallars), explored by Oleguer Escolà in August 1971.

Characteristics

Location

To the NNE of the small village of Sellui, at the top of the Clot de la Matella and on the flat upper stretch of a ridge of the Serra de Culroi that descends towards the riu d'Ancs.

Access can be gained from the N-260 road, once past Gerri de la Sal heading towards Sort, beside the cases del Comte, a track sets off which, following the course of the riu d'Ancs, passes through the small villages of Balestui and Sellui. It continues on to Ancs and after many kilometres, turns towards the S and passes near the Serra de Culroi, where the cavity is found.

Approximate coordinates and not very precise.

Description

Morphology

Through the entrance one enters a small chamber at the bottom of which opens a small pit of just over 3 metres. At its bottom, a cone of debris allows two options for continuation. Towards the NW it descends by a 2.5 metre drop and the passage ends closed. In a SE direction, a ramp between blocks gives access to the main joint and a few metres further on one finds a small pit of about 3 metres where the point of maximum depth is reached. The fissure continues onwards, between blocks wedged in the walls until, after a few metres, it becomes impenetrable.

History

The first, and only, exploration of which we have knowledge is the one carried out by Oleguer Escolà (ERE – CEC) in August 1971 during one of his usual biospeleological researches.

For the moment we keep the toponym Baés given by the author, but we believe that the correct one would be Baers.
