Characteristics

Location

Located at Qm 3.5 on the BV-2128 road in the municipality of Castellví de la Marca, we will take the turnoff toward the urban nucleus of La Conillera Gran. We will pass through the nucleus heading N along an uphill forest track for about 370 metres until reaching an upper plateau. Once we have arrived at this plateau, we will continue to the left for about 300 metres heading NW along a forest track until we find some vineyards on the left. At this point, we will have to continue on foot heading W for about 330 metres along the side of the vineyards and descending through the forest to reach the bottom of the next torrent. The caves are located beneath the torrent's drop, which makes it necessary to look for a feasible passage that allows us to overcome the difference in elevation down to the torrent.

Description

Morphology

A group of three cavities named Coves del Pascol, excavated in the bottom of a torrent tributary of that of Cal Biel, in the same level of strata and relatively close to one another.

Cova Nº1 del Pascol: Large rock shelter in the shape of a “U”, centred beneath the torrent's drop, it has a porch 40 metres wide and 6 metres high, its maximum route is 10 metres. The rock shelter has 2 platforms at different levels joined by a ramp with a 2 metre difference in elevation; in the W zone of the lower platform, there is a small concavity of scant route and height.

Cova nº 2 del Pascol: Small cave opened 2.5 metres above the base of the cliff, for which it is necessary to do a small climb. The dimensions of the entrance are 2X1.5 metres, which do not allow us to stand upright during the 3 metres of route that the cavity has.

Cova nº3 del Pascol: Cave opened above the base of the cliff with two connected mouths. Access is via the mouth of larger dimensions, a small climb being necessary, since it is located 2.5 metres from the base of the cliff; on the other hand, if access is via the smaller mouth, a ramp of steep incline gives access to the whole in an easier way. From the small mouth one advances initially to a chamber of reduced dimensions, and a crawlway connects with the chamber on the side, of larger dimensions. This chamber connects directly with the larger mouth and has several concavities of scant route and height. The total route is 18 metres.

Progression

To access la Cova nº 2 del Pascol, a small climb is necessary. To access la Cova nº3 del Pascol, if access is via the larger mouth, a small climb is necessary; if access is via the smaller mouth, a ramp of steep incline gives access to the whole in an easier way.
