Coves de Cal Sala

Coves de Cal Sala

Conjunt de font, petites esquerdes i coveta superior de 8 m. de recorregut a la zona de Cambrils (Solsonès)

Odèn • Solsonès8m1m

A set of a spring, small cracks and an upper cavity 8 m long in the Cambrils area (Solsonès).

Characteristics

Location

By the L-401 road (from Coll de Nargó to Sant Llorenç de Morunys), once past the small village of Cambrils and about 200 metres after km. 21, a group of farmhouses (Cal Roca, Ca l'Espunyes and Cal Sala) is found on the right.

Level with them and on the left of the road a track begins. At the first left-hand bend a path must be followed that comes in flat and reaches the Cal Sala spring. Above it there is a conduit that acts as an overflow in times of heavy rain. Following the crag upwards and to the left of the spring, a small fissure is found that works as a trop-plein of the spring. A little higher up is the upper cave of Cal Sala.

Description

Morphology

The upper cave of the set is a small and narrow gallery of about 8 metres that decreases in width until it becomes impenetrable. On the right and a few metres from the entrance there is a meagre conduit that seems to connect with the trop-plein located further down.

Hydrology

This cavity seems to be the highest overflow of the Cal Sala spring. The water that gushes from the spring passes under the crop field (the sign of moisture can be seen in the aerial photo) located above the house and comes back out to the surface shortly afterwards, creating a beautiful waterfall below the farmhouse.

History

It is to be supposed that this whole set of small cavities has long been known to the people of the area, but the first reference we have is the one that appears in the map of Editorial Alpina (1973 edition), provided by members of the ERE – CEC who visited it some years earlier, on the last outings of the so-called Operació Solsonès.
