Characteristics

Location

Rock shelter in Odèn, visible from the road and about 400 metres from it. You must position yourself on the L-401 road, from Cambrils to Coll de Jou, at kilometre 22.2. On the left-hand side a paved track starts and over a short distance brings us to the farmhouses of cal Xinquet and cal Petit, located right next to each other but at different heights; leave the vehicle at this point and follow the path to cal Jaume, which we will find on the right of the path. Here we will find a trail that goes around the Tossal de Cambrils, marked with light green paint (data from 1997). Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter with a frontal opening of 28 metres by 6 metres high and 8 metres deep.

Hydrology

A small dripping spring.

Progression

We will follow this trail in a NW direction, alongside a field. We will climb in zigzags through the middle of the forest, and before reaching the edge of an upper field, at a left-hand bend, under a pine tree, among holm oaks, we will leave the trail and follow to the right an abandoned path, along a gentle slope, which will bring us right below the cal Jaumetó rock shelter.

Other details

It is a rock shelter that had been used as a dwelling because of its good position over the Vall del riu Fred, and as a refuge from the inclemencies of the weather because it faces S, very well sheltered from the north wind and the rain in winter, and sunny in summer. We will still find the walls very blackened with soot, an oven, built-in cupboards, corrals and half-collapsed walls.

History

Cavity known and used as a dwelling since time immemorial. It was inhabited by the family that gave it its name well into the 20th century.
