Description
Morphology
Small submarine tunnel 9 metres long, in the lower part of the islet.
Hydrology
Marine currents facilitate the circulation of water inside the cavity.
Other details
Located in the upper part, it can be observed how all the air breathed inside the gallery crosses the rock due to the great porosity of the materials.
History
The only data we know are those given by members of the SIRE – UEC Gràcia who visited it at the end of October 1995.
At that time and due to lack of information, Illa Mateua was confused with the Cala del Salpaig, which led to it being catalogued under an erroneous name.
Our colleague Josep Guarro, familiar with the cavity, has passed us information on the correct data and, in agreement with Jaume Sandoval, co-author of the 1995 survey, we have made the appropriate correction.
Bio
The walls, thanks to the marine currents that facilitate the circulation of water, present a fauna rich in filter-feeding invertebrate animals.
