Description
Morphology
The cave opens in a joint north of an abrupt spur that falls over the Sot de l'Infern, in a rugged environment dominated by vertical conglomerate walls and the presence of mixed holm oak forest and thick undergrowth. A dry cavity with no limestone formations, which show a low degree of humidity and make it suitable as a habitat space. The cave has a passage of 34.5 metres with a width of up to 2 metres and a respectable height. At the end of the gallery, on the left-hand side, there is a descending crawl that ends choked by sediments.
History
It was discovered by Jordi Guillemot of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa, at the beginning of the first decade of the 21st century. He proposed that it was an ideal space for the habitat that had probably been occupied by the same community that buried the dead in the sepulchral cave of the Turó del Mal Pas, which was partially excavated in 1965. The existence of a habitat cave near the Mal Pas had already been anticipated by Antoni Ferrando in 1983. In January 2010 a preventive archaeological intervention was carried out there, directed by Karin Harzbecher Spezzia of the company Arqueociència, which consisted of two test pits in the centre and at the back of the cavity. The results were negative; only two handmade ceramic fragments were recovered, one reduction-fired and the other oxidation-fired, possibly assigned to some undetermined prehistoric chronology. During the intervention the planimetric survey of the cavity could also be carried out. During the revision tasks of the Carta Arqueològica, in December 2010, the cave was visited again and the test pit made by Arqueociència was observed, which made it possible to observe the absence of archaeological stratigraphy in the sections and that the sediment was of endo-karstic origin and not anthropogenic. At the back of the cave up to five irregular test pits were observed, which were attributed to looters. No archaeological materials were observed on the surface. So far it is not possible to assess aspects relating to the chronology or the extent of the habitation levels. The state of conservation of the site is poor; it is a natural habitation cave without structures from the Bronze Age (-1800 / -650).
