Cova de 67 m. de recorregut i d'interès arqueològic a la Serra de l'Obac

Mura • Bages67m6m

A 67 m long cave of archaeological interest in the Serra de l'Obac, south of the turó del Mal Pas.

Characteristics

Location

To the S of the turó del Mal Pas (some sources call it malpàs). Access is from the Alzina del Sal·lari car park, following the so-called Graons de Mura to coll de Boix. From here you must take the path that runs along the ridge of the Era dels Enrics until reaching the turó del Mal Pas. Without actually entering the hill itself, follow the path that continues towards the turó de Puigdoure, but very soon you must leave it to find a narrow trail that descends towards the torrent del Mal Pas and, after a steep descent, take a fork to the left that leads towards the agulleta del Mal Pas, and right beside it is the cave.

Description

Morphology

A wide entrance leads to a gallery that within a few metres noticeably narrows in section. About 10 metres further on the gallery widens again and immediately a short downward ramp between blocks begins. From here the gallery continues for about 35 metres more, maintaining fairly comfortable dimensions, about 3 metres wide and a height that remains at approximately 10 metres.

Halfway along this main gallery there is a small step that led to a short lower gallery filled with sediments, and towards the mid-1980s someone blocked its access, reducing the surveyed length by a few metres (Badiella, 1987).

History

According to circular no. 93 of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa, on 14 December 1958, six members of the organisation explored the cave.

Despite this, the cave was not made known until the explorations of the GES – CMB (April 1963) and the subsequent archaeological and palaeontological campaign that they also carried out with members of the GRS – AE Icària and GIS de la Cooperativa Pau i Justícia. A Cro-Magnon-type skull was found, along with scarce remains of pottery, flint and bone tools, and other faunal remains.
