Location

West of Roca Picarda, in the Serra de l'Obac (Mura). From Mura one must go to the house of the Puig de la Balma and from there continue to the coll de la Creueta, where there is a crossroads. One must follow in a S direction and follow the wide path that heads for the torrent del Forn de la Pega. On a bend there is a well-marked entrance that allows one to climb up to the ridge, which must be followed in a SW direction and where the pit is found.

Description

Morphology

The mouth is 5 by 2.5 metres and drops vertically to a depth of 16 metres. A few metres from the entrance there is rock in the middle and one can continue by two different ways that come together again at four metres. At 9 metres depth the cavity narrows and wedged blocks are found. At 16 metres depth, a ramp leads to a room of 7 by 14 metres, with some blocks of considerable dimensions.

History

The first news known of this pit is given by Domènec Palet i Barba in his work: “Excursió geològica i espeleològica a Mura i contorns”, the result of an excursion with members of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa in the year 1912.

Although an exploration of the pit was planned, it was not carried out until 8 December 1920, also by members of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa and led by Rossend Grané, who published an article about the pit, attributing to it a depth of 26 metres.

Possibly it was not explored again until July 1960, when we have record of a visit by members of the GES – CMB.
