Characteristics

Location

We will set out from the Puig de la Balma along the track that climbs to the coll Roig. Once here we will find a junction of tracks; we will take the track on the left and continue along the path until we find a small trail on the left marked with some stone cairns. The path, in a steep climb, will bring us to the foot of the Puig-andreu monolith. We will find the worked rock shelter on our left and rock shelter no. 2 on our right, after a small delicate step; both are at the same height, right beneath the Puig-andreu monolith.

Description

Morphology

The worked rock shelter (no. 1) has a length of 22 m by 7 m deep and a maximum height of 5 m. It presents thick walls with loopholes in the manner of a defensive fortification. Due to its location and height it could have been a lookout point.

Rock shelter no. 2 has a length of 16 m by 4.5 m deep and a height of 3.5 m; it presents no remains of constructions.

History

Known since remote times. Widely publicized in the hiking literature of the Serra de l'Obac. It seems to be a shelter of a defensive nature and more recently it was used as a fold for livestock.
