Characteristics

Location

Leaving the village of Tivenys in the direction of Benifallet, after 2.5 km we take a track on the right heading NE signposted as Partida de Foix. We continue along the concreted path until we reach the lower part of Santos (Creu de Santos); from here the path becomes a dirt track in good condition, we continue along it until we reach a closed bend to the right where there is space to leave the cars, we park and continue on foot. We take a little-marked waymarked path that runs parallel to the Barranc de Raudó and in less than 15 minutes descends to the bottom of the ravine, where the Boca de Foix pit is located.

Going back up the ravine along the right bank and heading N, about 50 m from the pit, we cross the ravine, climb up a rocky area between the two gullies heading NE for about 250 m and at the upper part of the crag we find Cova Mansebo.

This cavity is located within the Mansebo estate, owned by Juan Miguel Ramón, who must be contacted in order to access it.

Description

Morphology

Among three boulders, the entrance of the cavity opens, unblocked for access. Through a small fissure (0.4×0.55 m) and a climb-down that descends 2.3 m, we reach the main chamber, from which a first branch exits to the right that ends after 2.8 m filled with boulders. Returning to the chamber, a second crawl through which outside light enters leads to a window hanging on the wall of the ravine.

History

Discovered by Juan Miguel Ramón on 5 January 2019, who detected an air current between some boulders and unblocked the entrance in order to gain access. The following weekend (13/1/19) Juan Miguel, Carlos Cantero, Tomas Brull, Adrià Rebull, Esther Quirós, Santi Higins and Tonet Piñol began the explorations. Once all the unknowns had been checked, the exploration was considered concluded; the air current comes from the other entrance of the cavity, which emerges hanging in the Barranc de Raudó.

Visited on 25-5-2019 by Vicent Barraquet, Sarai Ramirez and other companions who carried out the survey and cataloguing work.
