Location

Leaving the village of Tivenys towards Benifallet, after 2.5 km we take a track on the right heading NE signposted as Partida de Foix. We continue along the concreted path until reaching the lower part of Santos (Creu de Santos); from here the path becomes a dirt track in good condition, we continue along it until reaching a tight bend to the right where there is space to leave the cars, we park and continue on foot. We take a faintly marked waymarked path that runs parallel to the Barranc de Raudó and in less than 15 minutes descends to the bottom of the ravine, where the Avenc Boca de Foix is found.

Description

Morphology

Through a small rounded entrance (where a margalló grows that must be respected), one enters a shaft that at 5 metres is broken by a ledge formed by a large block wedged between the walls and cemented by concretion. From this point, a beautiful and airy descent of 25 metres begins down to the base of the shaft, occupied at its centre by clastic products of good dimensions. On either side of the aforementioned base open respective descending passages that can be descended with athletic scrambling and in one of them the point of maximum depth of the pit is reached.

History

During the many campaigns that the GIE of the Club Excursionista de Gràcia carried out in the Serra de Cardó during the 1960s and 1970s, they were informed in Tivenys of the existence, among others, of this pit, which they explored in January 1971.

During the 1980s it was a cavity often visited by the Espeleo Club Tortosa in its initiation courses.

In 2019, Vicent Barraquet made a new survey in which the depth level is adjusted.
