Cova Llúdriga

Coneguda cova d'uns 100 m. de recorregut a Tivissa

Tivissa • Ribera d'Ebre100m3m

Cave of about 100 m of passage in Tivissa, with a large circular chamber, reconstructive forms and access via two routes of 3.5 km and 260 m of elevation gain.

Characteristics

Location

Going along the C-44 road (from l'Hospitalet de l'Infant to Móra d'Ebre) at around km. 13.5 (shortly before the coll de Fatxes), an asphalted track leaves to the left that led to the mas de Genessies and to Gavadà. One kilometre from its start, a track leaves to the right that gradually climbs towards the Punta de Jovara and continues until it ends at the ruins of the mas d'en Xanxo or de Jovara, at the head of the barranc dels l'Ullals de Jovara. Follow the path that runs along the ravine downstream and reach the point of the confluence with the barranc de Jovara, which we will have to go up a little more than a hundred metres to climb to our left (hydrographic right bank), up to a rocky wall where the cave mouth is found.

Another access is leaving from the mas de Genessies and following the PR-C-92 which passes through the coll del Rourar and continues to the confluence with the barranc de Jovara; at this point we will leave the PR and go up the barranc de Jovara; after 650 metres we will reach the confluence with the barranc dels Ullals de Jovara, by which the route described above arrives; we will continue going up the barranc de Jovara a little more than a hundred metres to find on the left (hydrographic right) the cave mouth in the rocky wall.

Both routes have a similar distance and elevation gain, about 3.5 kilometres and 260 metres of elevation gain.

Description

Morphology

Constituted by a single and large circular chamber with a slope towards the interior. Almost in the middle of it there is a small descending crawl of scant metres of passage that becomes impenetrable very soon.

At the SE end of the chamber there is an exit to the outside that is impracticable.

The chamber is occupied in good part by a large quantity of reconstructive forms, especially columns of quite important sizes. This fact makes the space of the cave seem to be constituted by different chambers joined to each other.

This, and the fact that from neither of the two known surveys do we have data of the traverse, makes it difficult to specify the real passage and that according to the criteria of each surveyor could vary appreciably. For the moment we have estimated that it could be around a hundred metres.

History

Known since remote times by the people of the region. The first reference that we know is the one given by Joan Ferraté who, with companions from Reus, visited it on 25 July 1908.

Around 1934 or 1935, during one of his many campaigns in this area, N. Llopis Lladó visited and surveyed it.

In 1947 it began to be visited (Español, Mateu, Montadas) with biospeleological interest.

Over the years it has been a cavity quite visited both by speleologists and by curious hikers, although it is not very documented.
