Naut Aran • Val d'Aran18m9m

Cave with 18 m of passage at Cap dera Serra (Naut Aran), with a triangular entrance of 1 x 1.10 m and a descending gallery.

Characteristics

Location

The cavity opens to the southeast of the summit of Cap dera Serra (2247 m).

From Salardú, follow the C-28 toward Port de la Bonaigua to the entrance of Baqueira and then turn left toward Pla de Beret (C-142B). At the entrance of Pla de Beret, leave the road on the right that leads to the Orri parking area and continue to the Beret parking area.

In August, take the Blanhiblar chairlift and reach the upper station. At other times, follow the technical track of the resort that begins from the south corner of the Beret parking area (altitude 1846 m).

Next, go toward a circular building (supply bar). From the end of the terrace, follow a well-marked path in a southeasterly direction around a rocky point to reach the south face of the limestone outcrop.

Description

Morphology

The triangular-shaped entrance of 1 x 1.10 m gives access to a descending gallery (average -38º) whose floor is covered with blocks.

Major clearing work made it possible to extend the gallery to -9 metres over a passage of 18 m.

The gallery leads to a small chamber with walls covered in mold-mich; this chamber is a cold-air trap.

The cave ends in a small impenetrable passage.

Progression

On the first visit, the cavity was obstructed by blocks 4.50 m from the entrance.

History

The cavity appears to have been discovered in July 2014 by Isaure Gratacos, Georges Jauzion, Alain Jumeau and André Pacouil (SMSP Toulouse).

The survey they produced indicates that they stopped in a chaos of stones below the first drop a few metres from the entrance.

On 8 August 2020, a team from the Interclub Mundus Subterraneus rediscovered the cave and, after carrying out major clearing work, reached the terminal chamber.
