Description

Morphology

Through a small mouth one enters a narrow zigzag conduit that, at 8 metres, opens into a wide hall of about 14 metres in major diameter and a height of about 2.50 metres.

History

It was surely known by people of the area, although the first exploration of which we have record is that of A. Lagar and J. Rosell on 5 August 1950, who named it dels Toixons. The same Lagar says that it was already cited by Faura, which is erroneous, since Faura cites the other cova del Toixó, above les Dous. Despite this, this possible first exploration was not known until 1973. Rediscovered by J. Lluch in 1958 and immediately explored by members of the ERE – AEC (Delegació de Vilafranca del Penedès) and archaeologists of the Museu de Vilafranca. These indeed make it known, together with the archaeological results. However they mention that the cave is also known as Cova de les Aranyes. In January 1973 it was visited again by Lagar and colleagues of the SIRE – UEC Gràcia, who surveyed it. In a document of the ajuntament de Font-rubí they say that it is also known as Cova de l'Hort del Sort and that at some point someone had called it Cova de la Roca Foradada.
