Description
Morphology
Through a 3-metre drop, one enters a wide gallery that extends in two opposite directions. In a SE direction, it forms a chamber full of blocks and, about 10 metres from its start, it is completely closed. In the opposite direction, towards the NW, the main gallery begins, with a lower ceiling than in the entrance area, forming various elongated chambers with a width reaching 10 metres in some places. At its end there is a final chamber occupied by a large quantity of blocks.
Developed along a bedding plane affected by intense jointing that has favoured infiltrations, creating a kind of predisposition to reticulation of the area, which later, thanks to dissolution phenomena, gradually reduced the volume of the limestone mass.
Speleothems
Both clastic and lithogenic processes are important, the latter represented by wall forms and some small columns.
Other details
Toponymy: At some point we have seen it cited as Cova d'en Janet and also as Cova del Genet.
History
Known since time immemorial, although it does not appear cited in the oldest speleological catalogues. The first reference we have is by Salvador Vilaseca, who published the archaeological work carried out, probably during 1934 or 1935, possibly on one of the visits accompanied by N. Llopis Lladó, who did the survey, although he mentions that at the International Exposition of Barcelona (1929) ceramic remains from this cave had already been exhibited.
Despite the archaeological interest of the cave, biospeleological research has been notable over the years by different generations of biologists, thanks to the great variety and quantity of endogenous fauna that has been studied from its interior.
