Cova del Barranc de l'eixarreí

Cova de 24 metres de recorregut a Margalef.

Margalef • Priorat24m8m

A 24-metre-long cave in Margalef, in the Coma Negra ravine, with a maximum elevation change of +8 metres.

Characteristics

Location

Access to the Coma Negra ravine is via a short track that leads to a peach orchard on the very bank of the Montsant river, just a couple of kilometres before the village of Margalef. We will cross the river wherever we find it most convenient, heading for the path that goes into the deep ravine on its orographic right. We will reach the first junction, before the cova del Miracle; to the left, we will go up the Teixeta ravine to the Cogulla. To the right we will head towards the cova del Miracle; before that, on the left, we will take the aforementioned path that heads towards the Racó del Morral. Without crossing the torrent, we will have to look for a poorly defined little path that climbs the left slope and hides in a wood that ends in a smooth slab that we will overcome trying to follow the path always along the middle of the ridge, and which leads us to an esplanade with excellent views of the Teixeta ravine and the Racó del Morral. From here we will go into a much more worn path, along the l'Eixarreí ravine, flanked by high cliffs where a large opening is visible in the distance, especially from the Teixeta cliffs. The opening is a few metres above the little path, at the foot of the cliff, once the scree slope has been overcome. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

It is a large joint that cuts the entire rock mass from top to bottom, visible even at the surface, but not explorable. The resulting gallery, after an entrance antechamber, takes on a rising character, climbable by wedging, until a passage is passed under a block that connects with a raised little chamber originated by the intersection with another joint, also high-ceilinged, but impenetrable a few metres further on. The maximum elevation change is +8 metres.

Progression

The resulting gallery, after an entrance antechamber, takes on a rising character, climbable by wedging, until a passage is passed under a block that connects with a raised little chamber originated by the intersection with another joint, also high-ceilinged, but impenetrable a few metres further on.

History

The first reference we have is that of the exploration by the GELL on 20 January 2002.
