Cova de les Pruneres

Cova de les Pruneres

Espaiosa balma que havia estat habilitada com a refugi a Montserrat

Bruc, El • Anoia16m0

A spacious cave in Montserrat, 16 metres deep and 45 wide, fitted out as a shelter in 1959.

Characteristics

Location

From the Vicenç Barbé shelter we follow the path that passes between the agulla de la Màquina de Tren and the Miranda de les Agulles until we reach the Pas del Príncep, a col located between the upper agulla del Pas del Príncep and the area of the agulles del Bitllat. We continue along the path that leads to the coll de Port and keep to the right in the direction of the coll del Miracle; having passed this col and after the two previous caves, we find this cave on the left and a little apart from the path.

Description

Morphology

Although on many maps and in many texts it appears as a balma, we prefer to refer to it as a cave, which is what it really is and, moreover, is how it appears on the map of the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya. It is a fairly spacious cave, 16 metres deep and 45 wide.

Other details

Inside there is a meagre stone wall. Josep Fatjó tells us about this cavity: “it was fixed up over the course of 1959 and on the day of the inauguration the monk climbers said a mass there”. In the cave there was a wooden wall at the front, dormitories with two rows of wooden bunk beds and trunks with capacity for some 15-20 people, there was also a wood store and a dining room with a fireplace, all made by members of the GAM of the Club Muntanyenc Barcelonès. The shameless people who wander the mountains with their lack of civility have devoted themselves to burning it all and have reduced this emblematic place to a pile of ashes.

History

Known since time immemorial.
