Characteristics

Location

Starting from the coll d'Estenalles we will go up the asphalted track. After the collet d'Estella we will pass a bend to the left and before taking a second one also to the left, we will leave the path on our right, off-trail, following along the crest of a ridge. About fifty metres before reaching the riverbed we will find the foot of the carbonatic level that we will follow on our right until we find the two entrances of the Cova de l'Agulla del Cellerot.

Very approximate coordinates (not provided by the author of the record).

Description

Morphology

The small cavity has a main entrance almost two metres high following a N31 generatrix joint and a secondary N300 one of scant development. The main gallery is barely about five metres of passage and ends clearly.

Speleothems

The right wall of the entrance presents reconstructive processes in the form of meagre flowstone.

Other details

The retreat of the cliff has been slowly slicing the crag until leaving the slab that forms the cavity ready to fall.

History

The Cova de l'Agulla del Cellerot was reported in 1989 by the now deceased Josep Barberà i Suqué, who informed Quim Solbas of it as well as of the existence of the cova del Torrent del Cellerot. The cave is near one of the least known needles of the massif but at the same time one of the most singular, the agulla del Cellerot, located in 'a delicious spot' - in Barberà's own words -, in the upper part of the canal del Cellerot.
