Location

Beside the Information Centre of the Natural Park at Coll d'Estenalles (road from Terrassa to Mura), a service track of the Park leads up towards Coll d'Eres. Shortly after starting along it, a ridge is reached (Coll d'Estella) and from this point, on the right, a ridge path heads SW and must be followed for a little more than 100 metres, and on its left, a short distance away, are the entrances of the pit, protected by an iron railing.

Description

Morphology

The pit has two entrances that are not very large. Access is via the lower one, which begins with a ramp that becomes vertical after a few metres, while the dimensions increase considerably. The plan is elongated and filled in by Conglomerate cobbles, except at the lowest point where fine sediment predominates. The cavity was formed on an N25E – S25O megaclase by the contribution of infiltrations possibly collected by a bedding plane observable at -4 metres. The entrances opened later through surface degradation.

History

It is not mentioned by F. Termes in his 1951 catalogue, therefore, in the absence of earlier information, very possibly the first exploration was the one carried out in May 1954 by members of the GES – CMB.
