Description
Morphology
Forat del Vent: The first part of the cavity is predominantly vertical, since it begins by means of a series of small pits and short drops until reaching a level where it becomes sub-horizontal. Here we find several galleries, the most important of which is the Galeria de la Comunicació, at the end of which the link with la Cova d'Artús existed. It seems that this connection is currently not passable due to a collapse.
La Cova d'Artús: A cavity with a great complexity of galleries, which make a complete knowledge of all of them difficult. We can divide it into two main parts; the first is located directly beneath the entrance mouth and constitutes the so-called Galeria de la Comunicació of SSW direction, and which after an irregular route with constant ups and downs along the joint, led to the Forat del Vent through a very narrow passage, which we have already indicated seems currently not to be passable due to a collapse.
From the entrance mouth and in WSW direction, one accesses a group of small galleries joined by narrow passages and which place us on several different levels, until reaching the main part known as the Galeria de les Ceràmiques, of chaotic and labyrinthine appearance like the rest of the cavity.
At the furthest point from the mouth, a reticulate-type zone develops called Galeries 73.
History
At the end of 1966 and after several days of clearing, members of the SES del CE Puigmal (Barcelona) explore this cavity. In the course of the explorations, in the neighbouring village of Albinyana, a pro-speleological movement is born among the youth, among them Joan Mª Pascual stands out, who discovers in 1967 the Avenc d'Artús. From this moment it becomes part of the Forat del Vent-Artús pairing thanks to the connection made when carrying out simultaneous explorations in both cavities.
This fact raises for us the doubt of whether there really was a physical connection between both cavities, since it has subsequently been said that there was a collapse that prevents the connection, but the authors of the first article speak of a simultaneous exploration that confirms the connection, at no point do they speak of the fact of entering through one mouth and exiting through the other, curiously they publish the records separately, giving the Forat del Vent a passage of 191 metres and a depth of -36 metres, while to the avenc d'Artús they grant a passage of 564 metres and a depth of -17 metres. If we add these data it turns out that the system in reality should have 755 metres of passage and as regards depth, if we take into account the difference in height between mouths it should be -46 metres. In the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (1978, Borràs-Miñarro-Talavera) both cavities are published separately, but indicating the respective measurements as regards passage and drop. In 1990 Ferran Cardona publishes it in the second volume of Grans Cavitats de Catalunya, but gives the speleometric data of the passage of la Cova d'Artús and the depth of the Forat del Vent.
On the other hand we find that the members of the SES-CEP christen one of the two cavities with the name Avenc d'Artús, this name is changed to that of la Cova d'Artús by the authors of the two catalogues mentioned in the previous lines, the reason for this fact being unknown, but resulting in it being the name by which the complex is known at present.
Finally the SES del CE Puigmal in 1973 find some new galleries that they name with this name, publishing the results of the explorations of this zone in the year 1977 in the magazine Més Avall no. 1, which would have no continuation.
