Cova Codolosa

Petita cova de 78 m. de recorregut a Susqueda (el Cabrerès)

Susqueda • Selva78m0

Small cave with a passage length of 78 m in Susqueda (el Cabrerès), explored and surveyed in 1976 and revisited in 2008.

Characteristics

Location

Along the road from Vic to Olot (C-153), before reaching the coll de Condreu (turn-off towards el Far) and more specifically, after kilometre 37, there is the house of la Codolosa. From here one must go up the riera de l'Om for about 500 metres and the cave is found beside the streambed and on its right-hand side (on the left as one goes up the stream).

Description

Morphology

A first gallery of 16 metres towards the SSW ends above a perpendicular one of 9 metres more, then returns to the initial direction for about 5 metres more and continues, through a passage very narrow at its start, which extends for a little more than 20 metres in a westerly direction.

Hydrology

The passage has a good part of its cross-section occupied by water to the point of being completely flooded. A later exploration allowed progress of a few more metres along a small gallery, almost entirely flooded and which ends closed between the sediments and the water. It seems to be a phenomenon originating from lateral infiltrations of the riera de l'Om itself.

Progression

On 27 November 2008, members of the SIE – CEA and of the GEB relocate it and one of them, equipped with a wetsuit, is able to advance about 20 metres more from the point where the first explorers stopped.

History

It is one of the many cavities located by the short-lived Grup Espeleològic de Mollet during cataloguing campaigns begun in 1975. The Cova Codolosa is explored and surveyed by them in 1976, giving it a passage length of 57 metres.

Bio

Isopods: Stenasellus virei (O. Escolà, 4-1-1976).
