Balma Nº3 de la Maçana

Balma Nº3 de la Maçana

Balma obrada al barranc de la Figuereta, la Maçana (Camarasa).

Camarasa • Noguera8m0

A worked rock shelter in the barranc de la Figuereta, in la Maçana (Camarasa), 22 metres wide and 8.7 metres deep, formerly known as les Figueretes.

Characteristics

Location

The rock shelter is located in the barranc de la Figuereta, in la Maçana (Camarasa). On the C-13 road from Camarasa to Tremp, at kilometre 53, we find on the right the turn-off to la Maçana, an old settlement that is currently abandoned and demolished. From the road we will follow the track in the direction of the barranc de la Figuereta for 1.6 kilometres until we reach an old quarry located on the left of the track, where we will park. Rock shelter no. 3 is the westernmost of the three and at a higher level. Each of the three rock shelters is located approximately 25 metres from the previous one.

Description

Morphology

Worked rock shelter 22 metres wide and 8.7 metres deep.

Hydrology

It seems that at certain times water deposits form there.

Progression

The most practical access is to follow the track a few metres onwards to some abandoned cultivated fields that we find on the left and cross them until we are at the upper part of the quarry where we have parked; from here we will go up the ridge line to the head of the torrent that remains on our right, then we cross the torrent and head directly to the rock shelters; the total route is 500 metres and we always have the rock shelters in sight.

History

Known since ancient times in the area. During the campaigns that GEFOMA carried out during the 70s of the last century in Camarasa, a local farmer told them that these rock shelters were known as les Figueretes; currently the only references we have found cite them only as balmes de la Maçana.
