Characteristics

Location

On the C-13 road from Camarasa to Tremp, at kilometre 53 we find on the right the turn-off to la Maçana, an old settlement that is currently abandoned and demolished. From the road we follow the track towards the barranc de la Figuereta for 1.6 kilometres until we reach an old quarry located on the left of the track where we will park. The most practical access is to follow the track a few metres further to some abandoned cultivated fields that we find on the left and cross them until we are at the upper part of the quarry where we have parked; from here we will go up the ridge line to the head of the torrent that remains on our right, then we cross the torrent and head directly to the rock shelters; the total route is 500 metres and we always have the rock shelters in sight.

Rock shelter no. 1 is the one furthest East of the three and at a lower level. Each of the three rock shelters is located approximately some 25 metres from the previous one.

Description

Morphology

Worked rock shelter 21 metres wide and 4 metres deep; inside we find a passage 7 metres long with a height of one metre.

History

Known of old in the area. During the campaigns that GEFOMA carried out during the 70s of the last century at Camarasa, a local farmer commented to them that these rock shelters were known as les Figueretes; currently the only references that we have found cite them only as balmes de la Maçana.
