Description

Morphology

Entrance 12 metres wide by 6 metres high. The plan is semicircular, with the 12 metres of the entrance and 6 metres of depth. On the right there are two small passages and in the centre a narrow passage that soon becomes impracticable. On the left there is a short passage that leads to another smaller chamber that has an opening in the cliff.

Hydrology

In the small chamber there is a meagre little spring that keeps the floor of the cave damp and cool.

Progression

The quickest way to reach the cave is from the Camarasa dam. Once past the road tunnel that is after the dam and after 230 metres along the road in the direction of Tremp, we will go up a gully that will place us right below the cave; from here one must look for the best option to get past the cliff steps. Another option is to follow a stretch of road until finding a track on the right, which we will follow; soon we find a fork on the right, this goes along gradually approaching quite close to the cave but at a lower level; once the path ends one will have to go cross-country to the cave.

Other details

There is no known survey of this cavity.

History

Cavity explored by Lluís Marià Vidal; we do not have the exact date but it seems it was shortly before 1894, which is when the article in which he mentions this cavity was published. Jeannel and Racovitza cite it, confusing it with the cova de la Maçana. We have no news of anyone else who has explored it. It seems to be an interesting prehistoric site. From the data provided by Lluís Marià Vidal we deduce that the cave has a minimum length of 25 metres.
