Balma del Pantà

Small rock shelter with rock paintings in Camarasa.

Camarasa • Noguera 5m

Small rock shelter with rock paintings in Camarasa.

Characteristics

Location

From the Camarasa reservoir dam, we follow the road towards Tremp; 200 metres after passing kilometre 49, we find a track on the right that climbs up towards the upper part of La Rendisclera, which is the cliff found above the road once past the dam. We follow the track to the first bend that turns to the left; in the middle of this, to the right, a track in very poor condition comes off heading E. When we have covered about 850 metres we must climb up to the base of the cliff where we will find the rock shelter.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter at the base of the cliff that is 20 metres long by 5 deep. We also find a large number of blocks fallen from the upper part.

Other details

In its easternmost part on the left and at 1.22 metres in height there is a single painting of schematic style. They are remains of red-brown pigment and simple stroke technique.

History

The first reference to its prehistoric interest is given to us by R. Viñas, E. Sarrià and A. Alonso when in 1988 they discovered it during a survey of the area. During the year 1988 the painting was the subject of exhaustive documentation, within the “Projecte Corpus de Pintures Rupestres de Catalunya”.
