Description

Morphology

The rock shelter is located in a valley of great beauty, in the Les Tàpies torrent. Its maximum dimensions are 14.50 m deep by 2 m high and 13 m wide. It is formed by a deposit of limestone tufa of great beauty.

Hydrology

The spring and the rock shelter are located in a valley where there is a highly spectacular waterfall about 30 m high. The rock shelter remains partially flooded by the works to condition and make use of the spring's waters. The spring water gushes from a karstic spring, through an impenetrable bedding plane. It is captured just at its outlet to the exterior and conducted by a channel to a pool that is just below the rock shelter. The spring water comes from some sinkholes of the Les Tàpies torrent and emerges to the exterior at the contact of the limestone and the blue marls that lie just beneath. The water has been channelled towards the pool below the rock shelter.

History

Known since time immemorial.

Bio

Vegetation typical of damp and shady places predominates; mosses, liverworts and ferns abound.
