Characteristics

Location

About 400 metres WSW of the Pleta. From the rear part of the Information Centre car park, we follow a path that jumps over the old field margins and heads S towards the old Pleta pool. As we approach the torrent we turn right onto a small path that goes into the torrent's hollow; the torrent soon takes on a steep gradient where we find the mouth of the avenc de la Pleta, and a little further down, in the middle of the torrent bed, the mouth of the avenc Morgan i Comas opens.

Description

Morphology

Once past the small mouth, one enters a 3-metre pit at the base of which it links with the upper part of another pit, of fusiform type, which reaches the -21 level. At this point there is a new 3-metre drop from which a descending gallery originates that at the end of its course reaches the point of maximum depth. At one of the ends of the aforementioned 3-metre drop a window opens 2 metres above its base, which is no more than the lower sector of another fusiform concavity joined to the main cavity at this point and the maximum depth level.

Other details

Cavity formed by the union of different blind concavities generated from different infiltration points, until one of them came to connect with the surface.

History

It was discovered on 12 November 1967 by Antoni Besora and Jordi Comas (GE Pedraforca) and two members of ACE Mataró (one of them nicknamed Morgan), from a small orifice that they had to clear. That same day they carried out the first exploration of practically the whole cavity.

Shortly after its discovery, someone erased the name painted at the mouth and repainted it as Avenc de la Cucona, although this name never caught on and, shortly afterwards, disappeared.
