Avenc Estella

Avenc Estella

Petit avenc de 10 metres de fondària a la Coma i la Pedra (Solsonès).

Coma i la Pedra, La • Solsonès38m10m

Small 10-metre-deep pit in la Coma i la Pedra (Solsonès), discovered when the slope was levelled to build the tennis courts.

Characteristics

Location

On the Coll de Jou road towards Tuixén, within the Urbanització Port del Comte, after 200 metres from the junction leading to the restaurant l'Avet, we take the steep street on our right. After 50 metres we leave the vehicle, and on our right we see a small football pitch. Here there is a retaining wall with a small door: we are already at the spot. Attention: if the door is closed, we will find the key opposite, at the restaurant l'Avet.

Description

Morphology

A door gives access to a small 2-metre-deep shaft, which with caution can be descended without a rope. Once inside, we will descend a 2-metre drop in a N direction, and reach a small chamber with lithogenic formations. We will descend 3 metres more down a ramp with a 0.40x0.50 metre crawlway that leads to a small chamber similar to the previous one. The deepest point is reached by descending through a crawlway and a 2-metre drop and continuing along a ramp full of fallen rocks that block the way. To go to the other side of the cavity, it is better to descend through the crawlway at floor level in the first small chamber, where we will find the widest and highest room of the pit; this communicates with the entrance shaft in its upper part, but with more difficult access. At floor level there is a possible continuation through a crawlway blocked by mud and stones that have fallen from the entrance. We will continue in a S direction, going up the ramp of mud and stones, passing towards another longer and steeper room with a lot of mud. At the end it climbs 2 metres but with no possibility of continuation.

History

It was discovered when the tennis courts were built, when the slope of the land was levelled and the retaining wall was made.
