Characteristics

Location

The cave is located in the Port del Comte area. From Coll de Jou (road C-463) you must take the track that climbs up to the Bòfia refuge. From there you must follow the path that, heading SE and through the Portell de l'Os, climbs up to the Puig de les Morreres. We will follow the marked path, leaving this peak on our left, cross the ridge and position ourselves above the Coll de Jou. A few minutes from the ridge, skirting the summit and below the same path, we will see the cave entrance. Approximate coordinates of low precision.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, 1.50 x 0.70 metres, is produced by the collapse of the vault. It gives way to a gallery that on the NE side closes after a few metres. Continuing in a SW direction it leads to a small pit of about 4 metres that gives onto a very small ascending gallery. Returning again to the previous gallery, on the right-hand side another gallery opens, with a steep slope and with the floor covered in unstable blocks. We will reach a point where there are some ascending holes that end very soon. In front of us, however, there is a small hole at floor level. This passage had to be forced with blows from a sledgehammer to be able to get through, and it still remains quite narrow.

Speleothems

Once the narrow passage is passed we come to a point where the first stalactitic formations are seen and the floor is covered in mud. An ascending gallery covered by a flowstone leads to a point where, turning to the right, it gives onto a final small chamber quite full of concretions.

Progression

Once the passage forced with blows from a sledgehammer is passed, an ascending gallery covered by a flowstone leads to a point where, turning to the right, it gives onto a final small chamber quite full of concretions.

History

Located and partially visited in 1969 by Joan Estella (founding member of the SIS that same year). It is not until the end of 1973 that a team from the SIS – CE Terrassa returns and begins the survey, returning the following year to clear a narrow passage and complete the exploration.
