Description

Morphology

The entrance is 1.5 x 1 metre and gives access to a 6-metre shaft that lands on a ledge, from which a short gallery climbs in a S direction. If you continue descending, you must first pass a narrow squeeze that later widens, reaching the foot of the lower level, about 3 metres wide, and finding yourself at the top of a sloping chamber that is descended to a total depth of 14.5 metres. Cavity formed along a N50E-S50O joint.

Speleothems

At the bottom of the sloping chamber important reconstructive forms can be seen.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the SES Talps del Centre Excursionista del Vallès (Sabadell) around 1964. All the members who took part in the first exploration were called Josep. Practically all traces of this cavity were lost until October 1978, when members of the SIS-CET and the GES-CMT, searching the whole area, believe they have rediscovered it and publish it as Avenc dels Peps in 1979. In January 1982, the same protagonists, with directions from Mr. Josep Lleixà, former woodcutter of Sant Feliu del Racó, explore in the same sector a cavity that at first seemed unknown and which they publish that same year under the name Avenc de la Soleia del Sabater. On a second visit they find at the bottom the remains of a card from the defunct Talps de Sabadell group inside a plastic card holder. This makes them suspicious and they begin to investigate. Result: the pit published as Avenc dels Peps was the one the Talps people had named Avenc de la Pala, and the one published as Avenc de la Soleia del Sabater was really the Avenc dels Peps. To complicate things further, it seems that someone has given the name of the Soleia del Sabater to another small pit in the area, but it has not yet been determined which one.
